Attend the D-Day commemorations in Normandy - 09 Apr 2009
Those planning a villa holiday in Normandy this June may be able to join in with the commemoration of the D-Day landings.
Held from June 5th to 7th, the event remembers the arrival of Allied forces on the beaches of Normandy more than 60 years ago.
On the final day of the celebrations, Bayeux, the first French town to be liberated from the Nazis, will celebrate its freedom.
It emerged recently that US president Barack Obama will attend the events on June 6th along with other world leaders, including French president Nicolas Sarkozy and UK prime minister Gordon Brown.
More than 200,000 Allied personnel were involved in the invasion of Normandy.
The heavily mined beaches of the French town were codenamed Omaha, Utah, Sword, Juno and Gold.
Other events taking place in June include the Romantic Film Festival, which features the opportunity to watch movies on the beach under the moonlight.
