4 March 2009
The Cannes Film Festival takes place from May 13th ro 24th, news which may be of interest to fans of the big screen thinking about villa holidays in France.
Held at the Palais des Festivals, the event will see movie stars from all over the world descend on Cannes to promote their own films and enjoy the works of their contemporaries.
Members of the public can also enjoy screenings during Director's Fortnight, some of which take place on nearby beaches, for a cost of between 7 (£6.20) and 15 per screening.
Although the idea for the annual film festival was first proposed in 1939, the first one did not take place until 1946 as a result of the Second World War.
Last year, more than 3,500 members of the media attended the event, compared to 700 in 1966.
