Lighting up a villa holiday in Andalucia - 28 Nov 2008
Good news for people heading on villa holidays in Andalucia next month - the Christmas lights in Malaga are just days away from being switched on.
This Friday will see the popular resort enter fully into the Christmas spirit with the traditional switching on of the festive illuminations.
A total of 3.7 million lights will be used to light up the city's night sky, with displays of note to be found in Calle Larios and Paseo del Parque, according to Typically Spanish.
To counter the huge electricity bill that such displays could generate, the city has opted to use new, more efficient LED technology.
Holidaymakers need not wait until nightfall to see the efforts Malaga has made to get into the Christmas spirit. In addition to the lights, the council has planted 100,000 poinsettia plants as part of the celebrations.
Malaga is currently bidding to be named European Capital of Culture for 2016 - a status held in 2008 by Liverpool.
