Situated along Italy's northeastern border, Trentino is a breathtaking land of saw-toothed mountains, lush green alpine fields and glittering waterfalls. This region is also called the Tirol of the South, where Italian is spoken in the south, and German in the north. The Italians have long known this to be one of their favourite holiday destinations, combining striking natural beauty, warm hospitality, reliable accommodation and affordable prices.

SHOPPING
Trento offers some great markets for collectors, antiques and artistic works. Excellent food markets are spread out throughout the region.

NIGHTLIFE
In the touristy part of Bolzano, there are a number of good pubs and bars, where you can try the local beer Weizen, which is a great interpretation of the Bavarian summer wheat beer. So enjoy yourself in the great lively atmosphere of the city.

EATING OUT
When you are in Trentino, you will experience a cuisine that is quite different from traditional Italian cuisine. You will always find Wurstel, sausages, frankfurters and zauerkraut in the menu...

WHAT TO SEE AND DO
Trentino offers a wide selection of traditional summer and winter resorts. One of the prime spots here is Lake Garda and the surrounding area, which boast one of the most beautiful landscapes in southern Europe. This is a land of ridges, snow-capped peaks, alpine meadows and beautiful waterfalls. You can visit delightful mountain villages, medieval Tyrolean towns, castles and Gothic chapels. Merano, the 'City of Flower', is the prettiest and most interesting town of the region. Just outside of Merano, discover the 12th-century Castel Tirolo.

REGIONAL EVENTS
Don't miss the fantastic festivals of Trentino:
Cembra: Raglio Palio: Costume parade, games, music and donkey race (July)
Don: The Bonfire: Folklore evening by a campfire in the woods (August)
Folgaria: Folklore Parade of the Brava Part (August)

SPORTS
The Trentino region is ideal for walkers and mountaineers and offers some fantastic hikes along its extensive network of well-marked trails. Trentino gives you a chance to climb or hike in a group led by an expert guide at any of the mountain climbing schools.
