The Appennine mountains offer some of the finest scenery of the region and provide some of Italy's most fascinating wildlife. There are a number of natural parks in the region, including the Parco Naturale dei Monti Sibillini, which is the largest and has 40km of mountain peaks.
The Piano Grande to the west becomes a carpet of wild flowers in May and June.
The Torricchio Riserva Naturale, just north of the Monte Sibillini park, is a small World Wildlife Fund reserve covering around 800 acres. These are only few of the natural parks that you can visit in the Marches.
The region boasts some of the best museums in Italy. These include the Palazzo Ducale in Urbino(a world class Italian Renaissance art museum), Raphael's house in Urbino (containing a fresco of the Madonna), the Pinacoteca Comunale in Palazzo Pianetti in Jesi (containing works of art by famous painter Lorenzo Lotto), the Museo della Carta in Fabriano (Paper Museum) and the Museo Nazionale Archeologico in Ancona (archeological museum).
