Sporades Islands Villa Holidays
The Sporades Archipelago lies to the north and east of the large island of Evia and is made up of 11 green and mountainous islands. Igluvillas.com brings you the best villas on four of the most beautiful islands that this amazing region has to offer.
Villa Holidays in Skiathos
Skiathos' main attraction is undeniably its stunning coastline, punctuated by wooded rocky headlands and countless coves and bays. Indeed it is believed to have a greater number of sandy beaches than any other Greek island. One of the most popular island destinations in Greece, Skiathos has many developed resorts and is renowned for its energetic nightlife and excellent sporting facilities. Inland though are many quiet valleys and monasteries which are easily accessible for walking tours. The gentle shelving sandy beaches and clear waters make Skiathos an ideal destination for families.
Villa Holidays in Skopelos
Skopelos, the largest of the Sporades islands, is blanketed in pine forests, vineyards, olive groves and fruit orchards, and like Skiathos, is well provided with coves and inlets. Skopelos town is an obvious highlight with its colourful town houses whose roofs are tiled with roughly-hewn bluestone, its ruined fortress and dozens of churches. Gossa is another pristine Greek village with good local beaches.
Villa Holidays in Alonissos
The green island of Alonissos, to the east of skopelos, boasts the cleanest waters in the Aegean and has been declared an official marine park. Once a renowned wine producing island, it is now fruit trees, pine and oak that predominate. The old capital of Alonnisos which was largely destroyed by an earthquake in 1965 is today a fascinating and tranquil collection of deserted streets and renovated houses – but the view to the coast is impressive to say the least. Fine beaches, coves and villages punctuate the coastline and small satellite islets are home to rare monk seals, falcons and gulls.
Villa Holidays in Skyros
Skyros lies at some distance from the rest of the group and is distinctly individual in its landscape and atmosphere. Rolling, cultivated hills and sometimes barren, rocky scrub is the setting to a relaxed and hassle-free island which has embraced the chic and the alternative. Skyros also hosts weird and wonderful festivals and it is not uncommon to see the Skyrian males still in traditional dress. Skyros town is a wonderful maze of old streets, draped over a high rocky bluff and crowned with a 13th century fortress. A great destination for beach-lovers and also for those in search of ceramics and wood carvings.
