Activities to enjoy on your Rhone Alps villa holiday

Whether you’re climbing down from the heights of Mont Blanc, hiking one of the many regional footpaths, or hurtling down whitewater on the Isère or the Ardèche, the wilderness of the Rhône-Alpes seems to offer so much. The extremes of the landscape obviously lend themselves to extreme sports as easily as the gentler pastimes more suited to those wishing to indulge a more sedate taste, making it easy to choose a relaxed cycle ride down a country lane one day and a mountain-bike ascent of a river gorge the next.
The gentler options first: the Rhône-Alpes has about 60 golf courses and more ‘waterfront’ miles than any other province – counting all the lakes and rivers and streams that lend themselves to sailing, swimming, or fishing. River cruises on the Rhône are popular with all ages, as are balloon ascents over the vineyard valleys. The Alps are especially well provided with activity centres offering all the family a sport or activity to sample, from archery to guided walks. Those same centres also offer the latest in adventure activities, ranging from canyoning and parapenting to whitewater kayaking and rock-climbing.

Towns and Villages to visit on your Rhone Alps villa holiday

To the east, the Alps rise from a plain of vineyards like a sheer, white-capped wall; the valleys threading the Haute-Savoie are spectacular to behold, while the half-dozen natural parks and 28 nature reserves offer visitors breathtaking panoramas – including Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest peak at 15,771 feet.
Pay a visit to Lyon, a bustling industrial city which boasts the largest intact medieval quarter in Europe, Annecy with its stunning lakeside setting or Grenoble - a vibrant city, set at the foot of the Alps, surrounded on all sides by white-capped mountains.

Gastronomy to savour on your villa holiday in the Rhone-Alps

If you fancy a change from eating in your villa why not step out to one of the many superb eating establishments and try some of the mouthwatering local cuisine. A visit to Lyon would not be complete without trying its famous charcuterie or indeed a refreshing "salade Lyonnaise". Further into the mountains, cheese based dishes tend to dominate with delicious tartiflette, gratins and fondues. Wash these down with a delicious Cote du Rhone and you can't fail to tantalise your tastebuds !
