Regional information for your villa holiday in Normandy

Normandy makes for an ideal villa holiday location with its superb beaches, luscious scenery and easy access from the UK. This dramatic region is bordered on both its north and west by no less than 600 km of coastline, with a succession of rugged cliffs, long sandy beaches, colourful fishing ports and holiday resorts stretching all the way from Le Treport in the east to the island monastery of Mont St Michel in the west. Away from the historic coastline you find peace and tranquillity in the quiet pastoral countryside, deep woodlands and sparkling rivers – the backdrop to many of our Normandy holiday villas. There are four channel ports along the Northern Coastline; Cherbourg, Caen, Le Havre and Dieppe giving you a superb choice of crossings from the UK. The new autoroute from Calais to Rouen has also put Normandy within fairly easy reach of the Channel Tunnel making that a great option too.

What Normandy is really well known for

Once you have settled into your fabulous villa holiday in Normandy, how about heading out to see what the region is really well known for. Out of the sea comes the famous monument of Mont-Saint-Michel with its ancient Abbey and interesting curiosity shops, the notorious D-Day landing beaches at Arromanches, and the peninsular of the Manche are all amazing sights to behold. The beautiful towns of Deauville; with its racecourse and chic shops, and Trouville with its renowned beach made famous in 1870 by Claude Monet, are much frequented by Parisians. Inland the National Stud at Argentan is popular amongst horse lovers. Beyond the pleasant orchards of Calvados sits the charming port of Honfleur awash with mouth-watering sea food restaurants.

What to see and do whilst on your villa holiday in Normandy

Whilst staying in a Normandy holiday villa, enjoy the history, culture and cuisine of the area. Culture vultures alike will relish in the many different historic places of interest; the Bayeux tapestry, Falaise, the birthplace of William the Conqueror and Rouen, where Joan of Arc met her fate at the stake, to name but a few. The home of the Impressionist painter Monet is at Giverny with its world famous garden which featured in so many of his works.

Shopping whilst on your villa holiday in Normandy

The region is famous for its cuisine with its plethora of cheeses, cider and the delicious calvados produced from the apple orchards in the region bearing the same name. Menus abound in meat such as veal (veau) cooked in vallée d'Auge style, which consists largely of the addition of cream and butter. Many dishes also feature orchard fruit, either in its natural state or in successively more alcoholic forms – either as apple or pear cider, or perhaps further distilled to produce brandies. Head out to the markets to buy this mouth-watering fare before heading back to create your culinary delights from the comfort of your beautiful holiday villa in Normandy , brought to you by Igluvillas.com.
