An abundance of fine museums and art galleries await you in Picardy, encompassed by many old streets and buildings proclaiming the culture and history of Flanders and its Flemish people, which despite the damage caused by two World Wars have remained intact. You will discover an astonishing number of war cemeteries and monuments in this land of ‘rejuvenation’, after many a battle was fought here. It is fair to say, and a tribute to the people of this land, that the only reminder of these battles is now to be found within the cemeteries and monuments. The numerous lakes and water parks will also ensure a very occupied family while enjoying the region !
Hire a bike to explore the Champagne producing lands of Aisne. The sign posted Champagne Tourist Route leads across lush valleys towards the world’s most famous champagne houses. Inside the cool cellars, explanations of production techniques are inevitably followed by sampling!
Stand on the spot, in the Samara park of history and nature, where Julius Caesar made his immortal “Vini, vidi, vici” speech
In Amiens, step aboard a flat bottomed punt for a tour of the ancient floating gardens, “les Hortillonages”. Or spend a day cruising down the Oise river for the wonderful scenery.
The great majestic forests are a special feature of Picardy, formally the hunting ground of the Kings of France.
No trip with the kids would be complete without visiting the magnificent theme park “The Parc Asterix”, south of Compiegne with exciting daily chariot races, gladiator fights and street theatre shows.
