Portugal holiday villas in Lisboa e Vale do Tejo (Lisbon area and Tagus valley)

Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is situated at the mouth of the Tejo River, nestling into the folds of seven hills, and offering many of the city's major attractions within walking distance of each other. This city is a wonderful place to enjoy a holiday villa in Portugal.
Medieval, enchanting and picturesque, Alfama lies to the east side of the city. The narrow medieval streets and alleys lead to large modern avenues, stretching up from the riverfront. These happy contrasts create a beautiful aesthetic within the city. All this can be advantageously appreciated when you stay in one of Iglu's holiday villas in Portugal. The magnificent Castelo de Sao Jorge is well worth a visit, as are the numerous museums of Lisbon, such as the Museo Nacional del Azulejo. There are also many ancient remains, for example the Monastery of Los Jeronimos and the “Torre de Belem”. Belem is renowned as the birthplace of Portugal's Age of Discoveries.

While enjoying a holiday villa in Portugal in Lisbon, you may wish to visit the Parque das Nacoes, which was the site of World Expo 98. This event helped Lisbon to become recognised as a modern and progressive city. With its Art Nouveau architecture, street cafes and tree-lined avenues, Lisbon makes a perfect destination for a relaxed or cultural escape to a holiday villa in Portugal.

Other attractions to enjoy from a holiday villa in Portugal

Put in a visit to the Casa dos Bicos (Spiky Mansion) during your holiday villa in Portugal; this 16th century Mansion house survived the major earthquake of 1755, and is named after its diamond-shaped stone facade. The interior is not open to the public. To the north of Lisbon, you can take a walk through Cabo Carvoeiro de Peninche and take the boat to the Berlengas Isles. Further south, it is well worth visiting Obidos and the castle, it is lovely to walk down the winding roads and look at the many flowers that grow there - a lovely way to spend your time while enjoying a holiday villa in Portugal. You may also wish to visit the Costa do Estoril, well known for its regattas, numerous tourist attractions and superb golf courses.
