Called the island continent, Gran Canaria is a place of richly diverse vegetation, culture and climate. Deserts and arid vistas give way to lush mountains with tropical vegetation. The steep cliffs of El Puerto de la Nieves and de la Aldea together with the rugged ravines of Tirajana, Moya and Azuaje alternate with pleasant valleys of banana-trees. Plants from Europe, Africa and America grow in the banks of mount Tejeda, which is a set of towering basalt rocks and the centre point of the island. Staying in one of our Grand Canaria holiday villas is an ideal way to enjoy all of the wonderful delights the island has to offer.
Resorts
Las Palmas, the capital and the largest city of the archipelago, has all that you would expect of a big city: night clubs, international shows, an intense bar culture and an ample calendar of festive occasions and celebrations (see link at top of page for events information). You must visit the quiet district of Vegueta with its narrow streets and sheltered squares while the Old City has the most important sights; the Gothic-neo-Classical cathedral, Columbus House, the Canary Museum with its exhibitions of the Guanches, the pre-Spanish inhabitants of the islands. Many old villages, such as Ingenio and Agaete, can be found scattered throughout the island - famous today for their crafts and embroidery. Base yourself in one of our Gran Canaria villas so you are free to explore the island at your leisure
Shopping
Gran Canaria boasts an extensive network of shopping areas in the island’s main urban and tourist centres.
Nightlife
Nightlife in Gran Canaria is lively, noisy and fun! It does start late and goes on all night with most bars opening until 02.00 am and discos and clubs usually until 06.00 am in the morning.
Eating Out
A great choice of friendly bars and restaurants ensure that all year round tourists have plenty of options when it comes to eating out.
Beaches on Gran Canaria
Vast wide beaches are also a real highlight – such as the resorts at Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas. The dunes at Maspalomas are probably one of the best parts of the beach and are a protected park.
What to see and do on your villa holiday in Gran Canaria
God forbid that you ever tire of the water and sand but if you do, you can try a host of theme parks like Palmitos Park, a subtropical oasis crammed with exotic flora and 230 species of birds.
The best place to start your visit to Gran Canaria is the capital of the island, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and specifically the Las Canteras beach. Upon commencing a tour of the island, you should know that there are five routes for exploring the rest of Gran Canaria, namely the Northern route, which has two itineraries; the Southern route; the Western route; the Central route; and, lastly, the Circular route around the island. There really is so much to see and do on your Gran Canaria holiday.
