Galicia Villas: Regional Information
Rural and still much ignored by the rest of Spain, Galicia is tucked away in the north-west corner of Spain and is, in many senses, another country. It is reminiscent of the west coast of Ireland with its temperate climate, lush green vegetation, and legends and ancient myths.
Most travellers in Galicia head straight for Santiago de Compostela, one of Spain’s most engaging towns. But beyond this, you’ll also find plenty more memorable scenery. Beaten by the Atlantic ocean, the wild coast line of Galicia is dramatically indented with majestic estuaries and is dotted with coves, beaches and enticing villages.

Regional activities

The mountainous areas of Galicia offer a great opportunity for hill walking. The rivers Arnoya, Mino and Limia offer trout fishing and the many reservoirs make for excellent water sports.
For those of you that like skiing, you are not far from the popular resort of Manzaneda, near Ourense.
The 22 dams and artificial lakes in the province are also popular destinations for rowing.
If you are into maritime excursions, discover the Galician underwater panoramas!

Resorts

Santiago de Compostela
The capital of Galicia and final destination of the famous pilgrims way is certainly among Spain's most beautiful cities.
A Coruña
This city, of high economical importance, is located at a peninsula. Major attractions include the Romanesque churches, the synagogue and the old quarter which offers an interesting contrast between almost fragile buildings and massive stone palaces.
Vigo
This is Galicia's most populated city, with the most important port. It's historic quarter is very charming and well preserved.

Beaches to enjoy on your villa holiday in Galicia

There are smooth beaches in As Mariñas and in the area of Rias Altas you will also find superb beaches. The three best beaches in Galicia however are: Carnota Beach - A Coruna (one of the longest beaches in Galicia with its clear crystal water, surrounded by vegetation). Melide Beach - Pontevedra (set on the beautiful Island of Ons, which forms a part of the Natural Park of the Atlantic Islands, we find this rustic and very often nudist beach with clear aqua marine waters although sometimes rather cold like most of Galicia). Da Frouxeira - A Coruña (a beautiful long white sandy beach. It is less suitable for kids because of the waves, but great for surfers).
