The ‘Peaceful Island’ of the Canaries is a mere 80kms from the African mainland and is recognisable by its miles of unspoilt sandy beaches and awesome landscapes. Due to the location of Fuerteventura the island enjoys pleasantly warm climate throughout the year, with gentle breezes providing a welcome, refreshing relief to the temperatures. Our Fuerteventura holidays offer the promise of some fantastic weather, with one of our private Fuerteventura villas the perfect place to stay to enjoy the fantastic climate.
Arid mountains and spectacular lava plains are coloured in subtle hues of ochre, yellow, red, brown and black – all set in contrast with picturesque white-washed villages and the refreshing greenness of swaying palm groves.
There are many attractions inviting tourists to discover different aspects of the island's landscape and culture such as Betancuria Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography and Tefia Craft Village to name a few.
Resorts
Resorts that you must visit are: Corralejo, Jandia and Morro Jable, Caleta de Fustes, El Cotillo, Puerto de Rosario, Fuerteventura’s Wild West Coast and also Fuerteventura’s Wild West Coast and the interior.
Those who are interested in the culture and history of the island will enjoy the peaceful remoteness of the ancient capital of Betancuria (named after the island's conqueror, Jean de Bethencourt). You can see ruins of the island's first monastery built by the Franciscans, and the 17th century Iglesia de Santa María watches over the centre of the settlement.
A couple of kilometres north of town is the Mirador de Morro Velosa, which offers mesmerising views across the island's weird, barren landscape. South of town is the Vega del Río de Palmas, a dry watercourse that is nevertheless wet enough below the surface to keep a stand of palms going.
The volcanic island of Lobos, only approx. 6 square kilometres in area, lies off the north-eastern coast of Fuerteventura. A day trip from the harbour of Corralejo is particularly worthwhile for walkers and nature lovers. You can walk right round the island in around 2-3 hours.
Shopping
Fuerteventura is a great duty-free place to shop. Whether you’re looking for beach items, resort wear, electronics, or booze, you’ll find great selection and values.
Nightlife
With a wide variety of excellent bars and restaurants there's plenty on offer in Fuerteventura to keep you well entertained till the small hours, particularly in the resorts of Corralejo and Caleta de Fuste.
Eating Out
Because of the hot climate Fuerteventura's cuisine is quite simple and yet extremely tasty. Obviously the most common food is fish, which is generally served up with locally produced sauces and flavourings.
Beaches
The coastline is extremely diverse and dramatic. In some places, thundering waves crash onto glistening, black, volcanic rocks while, in others, calm lagoons of intense blue are edged by white sand beaches and mountainous dunes.
