The Franche-Comté is a compact region, wedged between Switzerland and Burgundy, which enjoys the best of both lands. The near-Alpine scenery in the Jura Mountains, from Mont d’Or at 1460m to Mont Rond at 1534m gives way to gentler, vine and forest-clad slopes.
The region's well maintained highways and railroads make it easily accesible, but also ensure that an onward journey to Germany or even Italy is fast and easy. If you are a keen angler, Franche-Comté boasts wonderful fishing reserves teeming with trout, grayling and pike. Whether calm or cascading, the region abounds with sparkling blue lakes, scenic mountains streams, springs and waterfalls. As long as you do not overindulge sampling the local pear, plum or kirsch liqueurs, you will have plenty of opportunity to marvel at Franche-Comté's unblemished scenery.
