Cologne (spelled ‘Köln’ by the Germans) is one of Germany’s largest cities, and a prominent 2006 World Cup venue. It is 2,000 years old this year. A city of impressive and beautiful architecture, hugging the banks of the Rhine – it has a past of historic significance for its economic power, culture and its love of football! It is home to the German Sports University, and boasts the FIFA World Cup stadium that opened in 2004, in a bid to see off stiff competition from neighbouring cities for a right to host World Cup games in 2006. 72 metre masts support the roof and act as an illuminated landmark welcoming football fans to Cologne. Inside – with spectators separated from the pitch by a distance of only eight metres, this 2006 World Cup venue assures passion and excitement this summer! The FIFA stadium has a capacity of 46,000, and will host five matches in total during the 2006 World Cup.
The Sports University in Cologne attracts students from all over the world to study in its famed halls; this indicates just how seriously the city of Cologne takes its sports heritage. This enthusiasm is reflected in the way the city has embraced being a prime 2006 World Cup venue. We have various villa properties available as accommodation for the World Cup in Cologne this year. Holiday home accommodation ranges from apartments to houses or villas to hotels that will serve differing needs for a World Cup break.
