Regional information for villas in Alsace Lorraine

The combined regions of ‘Alsace-Lorraine’ provide the visitor with distinctly different experiences. Where Alsace is wooded and mountainous, Lorraine ambles more gently over low hills; where Alsace sparkles in its almost-German ambience, Lorraine is more restrainedly French. The Vosges Mountains define the region’s overall climate. The ‘blue hills’, rising to 1424m in the south, form a backdrop of regional natural parks protecting the Rhine and its vineyards from blustery western winds.
In Alsace, the half-timbered houses may look a bit like a Hansel-and-Gretel storybook, and the native language – Elsassendeutsch – has echoes of German, but Alsace is fiercely French. Well, Alsatian first, and then French.

A stay in an Igluvilla will provide you with a fantastic base from which to discover this fascinating region.

Places to visit in Alsace Lorraine

The lively international city of Strasbourg - part-time home to the European Union and seat of one of France’s oldest, most active universities - is a million miles in every way from the geranium-decked balconies of quiet, quaint Seebach, just down the literal road. Lorraine’s regional capital, Nancy, is a pleasing gem of 18th-century French Neoclassicism, while Metz, on the east bank of the River Moselle, has an impressive Gothic cathedral with superb stained glass, including a window by the modernist painter, Chagall.

Regional Cuisine in Alsace Lorraine

The regional cuisine is also worth savouring. The famous "Alsatian dish " includes ham, beef sausages and Alsatian pies among which the "foie gras" is the most appreciated. Served with a wine from Alsace or accompanied by a good beer, the sauerkraut of Strasbourg mixes sausages, pork chops, bacon and ham with the famous seasoned cabbage.
