Regional information for villas in Abruzzo and Molise

Although perhaps not as artistically and culturally rich as their neighbours, Abruzzo and Molise (together known as Abruzzi) offer a wild beauty and old traditions that are unrivalled. Families will love the wildlife, profuse nature and story-book castles of Abruzzo. A stay in an Igluvilla provides you with a stunning base coupled with easy access to enjoy this wonderful region.

Shopping whilst on your Abruzzi villa holiday

You like looking for bargains? Enjoy the busy shopping in one of the many flea markets of the region including L'Aquila, Sulmona and Pescara (in July), Papoli (in August) and Castelli (in July and August). The local cuisine is a treat, visit the great food markets and pick up your favourite ingredients for delicious true Italian style meals, take them home to enjoy in the comfort of your wondeful villa.

Nightlife to enjoy

There are a number of great clubs, pubs and restaurants to enjoy while you are in the region. If you prefer to see a play, then Teatro Stabile is the place to visit.

Eating out in Abruzzo and Molise

As regards to the first courses, other than the famous maccheroni alla chitarra, worthy of mention are the scrippelle 'mbusse - thin pancakes sprinkled with sheep's cheese and cinnamon and covered with broth - and the renowned timballo (also based on pancakes). Lamb holds the leading role as "the main course" thanks to its particularly tasty, tender meat; it is cooked in different ways according to the traditions of the different localities. When talking about typical Abruzzo cakes we must remember: the pizza di Pasqua, a kind of leavened flat bread (focaccia), that is blessed in church on the eve of Easter; the ferratelle (L'Aquila), the neole (Chieti), and the pizzelle (Pescara).

Beaches to enjoy

Abruzzo’s eastern coastline is marked by vast sandy beaches stretching along the Adriatic north and south of Pescara.

Regional events

Cocullo (first Thursday in May): Snake Handlers' Procession - a statue of the town's patron, St. Dominic, is carried through the town covered with live serpents.

Scanno (November): Bonfire Festival: enormous bonfires are lit on the surrounding hillsides to commemorate St. Martin.
